Summer Blog Challenge: Day 59

Today's challenge: How does your life measure up to the vision you had when you were younger?

When I read this question, I saw exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, that many and more! Because Ha! Joke's on me! My life is NOTHING like I ever envisioned in my youth. NOTHING.
Going Green with the Grizls

When I was in high school, I dreamed of living in a cabin in the woods, writing novels and poetry in between gardening and taking care of my many children. I thought I would marry a hippie man-of-the-woods type guy and we would homestead somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

It seems I am finally trying to make that dream a reality, at least in part. That's really what this blog is all about. Getting out of that typical middle-class America mindset that I let myself slip into over the years. I have a big mortgage and a messy marriage. I have materialistic children and a real job and I haven't written a poem or much else (excempt my blog) in years. I did start a novel once, but then my computer crashed and I never tried again. Until recently, we ate fast food and potato chips instead of real food. And we spent a lot of time trying to keep up with the Jones'.

Oh well. Like I said, I started this blog because I realized that I had gone in a direction I was opposed to. I am making changes, one at a time. It's too late for some of the things I envisioned. But others are always just around the corner. And we're getting there...

  1. Hooray for you!!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad to hear about the changes you envision. Until I read your post I had forgotten about my dream of chucking it all (before I was married) and get a job as a Park Ranger. I wanted to live a solitary life in the woods.
